Prof. T. V. Ramakrishnan's research work helped in starting two new subfields in condensed matter physics, namely the onset of electronic localization in disordered systems and the modern theory of liquid-solid phase transitions. Some of his papers are amongst the most cited papers in this field. He is currently involved in research on high temperature superconductivity. He is an inspiring teacher and has authored several books for the benefit of students.
