Balasubramanian Iyer's Brief Profile
Prof. Balasubramanian Iyer is presently visiting professor at the
ICTS-TIFR, Bengaluru. Prof. Iyer is a Fellow of the American Physical
Society and also a Fellow of the International Society of General Relativity
and Gravitation. He is the Chair of the IndIGO Consotium from its inception
and principal investigator of IndIGO participation in the LIGO Scientific
Collaboration (LSC). He has been the recipient of the Breakthrough Prize
as a part of LIGO collaboration that detected gravitational wave from the
binary merger in 2015.
He has made important contributions to gravitational theory, in particular
the post-Newtonian approximation and equations of motion. He has shown
outstanding leadership in creating the gravitational wave community in
India through the IndIGO consortium, and played a key role in the LIGO-India
